TRAVELING WITH YOUR GIANT SCHNAUZER PUPPIES

Although what most consider the biggest summer holiday of the year has come and gone, summertime is still a great time to travel.  Whether visiting family, heading to the beach or just taking a long drive, keep in mind that taking your giant schnauzer puppies along for the ride will require some preparation that might not be necessary if traveling alone.

Plan ahead

Before you jump in the car with your giant schnauzer puppies, plan ahead!  If you will be on the road for several days, make sure you find hotels ahead of time that will allow giant schnauzer puppies to stay.  Make the necessary calls to ensure that both you and your Giant have a comfortable place to relax and recoup from a long day on the road.  Plan your route as well to take advantage of puppy friendly areas such as parks and rest areas.  Your giant schnauzer puppies will appreciate sightseeing and exploring new areas just as much as you do!

Always Have Water

Even if you plan your trip with your giant schnauzer puppies to include multiple rest stops, make sure you pack extra water for your trip.  If a rest stop is closed or for some other reason does not offer water, you will always have a supply for the Giants.  Keeping ice that will melt slowly and stay cold will help to keep the giant schnauzer puppies hydrated while on the road.  Also, pay attention to the Giants.  If they are panting or becoming anxious, it may be time to make a stop, planned or otherwise, to let the puppies grab a quick drink.

Breaks and Exercise

Many times when we humans are traveling a great distance, we tend to want to get from here to there as quickly as possible.  This philosophy can take its toll on traveling giant schnauzer puppies.  Remember that Giants are a very active breed that require daily exercise and can become bored easily if they do not get that exercise.  Take an extra few minutes at the rest stops, parks or other pauses in driving and run or play with your giant schnauzer puppies.  The exercise will help keep the Giant calm and relaxed for the next leg of the drive.

Keeping them Comfortable and Safe

If your giant schnauzer puppies have a favorite blanket or toy, pack it for the trip.  Familiarity will ease the puppies if they have any anxiety attached to riding in an automobile.  Ensure that you have a leash with you for the pit stops.  When traveling, you can never be certain of what you will encounter from stop to stop.  The leash will allow you to control your giant schnauzer puppies and keep them safe.  Finally, include some bags on your travel list to clean up after the Giants.  While you may not appreciate this chore, others at the rest stops will!
