SUMMERTIME FUN WITH GIANT SCHNAUZER PUPPIES

With the temperature finally beginning to rise and more green appearing in our area of the world, it can only mean that summer is right around the corner!

With summer comes the annual rise in the popularity of outdoor activity!  As the ice turns back to water, pools, lakes, beaches and ponds begin filling up once again with people and animals.  If you are a beach or water lover, you may find giant schnauzer puppies the perfect companions!  Giant schnauzer puppies are not the type of puppies that will normally need to be acclimated to water.  Most Giants seem to love the idea of jumping into a pool, lake, pond or even a large mud puddle.  But remember that Giants are a high energy dog that require frequent exercise and activity!  If you head to the beach to work on your tan, don't expect the giant schnauzer puppies to be content sitting in the sun all day.  Instead, consider some of the water activities below to keep giant schnauzer puppies happy, healthy and active.

Retrieving - Think of retrieving as fetch with a twist!  Throwing balls or other dog toys into the water for giant schnauzer puppies is a simple way of interacting with your companion while keeping the giant cool on hot summer days.  Water retrieval can also teach giant schnauzer puppies simple commands and get them used to training while exhausting some of the puppies seemingly never ending energy!

Deliver - Teaching giant schnauzer puppies to deliver items to someone, or to somewhere, in the water is basically the reverse of retrieving.  Not only does this provide entertaining activity for the giant, but can actually come in handy in emergency situations.  Imagine a family member having trouble in the water and the giant schnauzer puppies delivering a floatation device to the struggling person!  While this activity may seem daunting at first, remember that giant schnauzer puppies are an intelligent, working breed of dog!  Not only would the giant schnauzer puppies love the attention, but they would love the work and would pick up on the deliver game much more quickly than most people might think.

Towing - Also related to retrieving and delivering, giant schnauzer puppies can tow items through the water.  Of course, be careful how much and how far you have your giant towing in the water!  Giants should not be towing boats through the water, though they are likely to try for the ones they love.  But just like retrieving and delivering, giant schnauzer puppies can enjoy the summer heat by moving items from one place to another through the water.

Dock diving - If you have a pool deck, pier or other surface near the water, grab that ball or dog toy once more and let your giant schnauzer puppies show off their diving skills!  Combine the retrieval activity with dock diving for a dog and owner game that will be entertaining to both!  Let the giant schnauzer puppies get a running start and time the throw to see how far they can get, how high they can get and how well they can catch!

Of course, you don't have to go to the lake, pond or pool to cool off with your giant schnauzer puppies this summer.  Just turn on the hose or sprinkler and I guarantee your giant will help you come up with your own hot weather activities!
