Giant schnauzer puppies can make great jogging buddies, and are a very energetic breed of dog, but owners of giant schnauzer puppies must still take precautions when exercising with their canine companion. With the summer months upon us, for example, keep in mind that giant schnauzer puppies will be walking, jogging or otherwise exercising in a fur coat. Follow a few simple rules and monitor your giant schnauzer puppies to avoid over-exertion.
First and foremost, pay attention to your giant schnauzer puppies. If they are slowing down, panting excessively, or trying to sit and rest, then consider shortening your exercise or changing your regimen as far as the Giant is concerned. If the giant schnauzer puppies show no signs of exertion or seem to have residual energy after your exercise, consider adding some play time in the yard or in the house if you cannot keep up with the Giant. Given the energy level of giant schnauzer puppies, the second scenario is more likely than the first! Also keep in mind that marathon jogging sessions can be hard on the joints of a puppy, so keep an eye out for signs of discomfort or laboring to keep up. giant schnauzer puppies will want to please their new companions and may not know when to quit, so you must help them with this decision. Remember, also, that your giant schnauzer will not be a puppy forever. As the Giant ages, he or she may not be able to keep up with a rigorous workout.
Of course, it is always a good idea to have a veterinarian check giant schnauzer puppies before having them join you in a strenuous exercise program, and diet can play a large part in keeping giant schnauzer puppies healthy and energetic. Once the program starts, keep these other tips in mind to ensure a happy, healthy exercise partner:
* Train your giant schnauzer puppies to heel and jog at your side. This will avoid problems if running, jogging or exercising in a public area. It will also help you to avoid injuries from being dragged or jerked around by a very strong Giant who is easily distracted.
* Start slow and stay consistent! Don't throw giant schnauzer puppies into a tri-athlete training regimen on day one. They will try to keep up with you. Start slow and short and increase the intensity just as any human would when starting an exercise regimen. Also, giant schnauzer puppies require exercise on a daily basis, so make the exercise program as consistent as possible or make sure the Giants get their exercise on your rest days!
* Keep nails clipped. Especially if you are exercising on roads or rough terrain. Keeping giant schnauzer puppies nails trimmed will reduce injuries such as splitting during exercise.
* Try to exercise in the morning or evening. Again remember the fur coat and keep in mind that giant schnauzer puppies are not wearing shoes. Hot pavement, hot sand or any other hot surface can not only be uncomfortable for your giant schnauzer puppies but can injure their paws. Sticking to morning or evening hours can avoid this issue.
* Bring water. For any lengthy exercise, make sure you have plenty of water for the giant schnauzer puppies and for yourself. Giants, like humans, are not mmune to heatstroke.
Following these tips will allow you and your Giant to stay healthy while also staying safe! Remember, more than anything else, to pay attention to your giant schnauzer puppies when exercising and rest or head home if the Giants show signs of over-exertion.
